NSH Summer Camp 2019

This year we are going again to our favourite destination, the Canadian Rocky Mountains and the nearby Selkirk Mountains.
The camp will take place from Sunday July 21 to Sunday July 28 and will be split in two locations to provide new and a greater variety of hikes.
The first three nights (July 21,22,23) will be spent at Canyon Hot Springs from where we will be hiking in the Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks and the last four nights (July 24,25,26,27) will be spent at Castle Mountain Hostel International from where we will be hiking in the Banff National Park.
The first draft of the hiking schedule will be sent to all participants in April. A get together to finalize the draft will be planned in the spring.
What do you need to do to participate to this year’s summer camp?
  1. send an email to cristina.jacob03@gmail.com and diane_whiteley@telus.net expressing your interest and how many days of summer camp you would like to attend
  2. Phone Hostel International central booking at 1-866-7624122 to reserve a bed at the Castle Mountain HI for all four ( July 24,25,26,27) nights or less if you so wish
  3. Email Cristina and Diane with your confirmed booking. Please note that HI will need your credit card but they will not charge it until your arrival. They also have a no charge (minimum 48 hour notice from arrival) cancellation policy
  4. The Canyon Hot Springs does not open for reservations until May. Check however their website. Accommodations include cabins and camping. You can get a camping site for about $40/night. They have coin operated hot showers.
Please note that the camp organizers, Cristina Jacob and Diane Whiteley are facilitating a greater flexibility for participants to choose how many days they want to attend the camp and where they want to stay during July 21 and July 28. If hosteling is not your cup of tea, there are two camping grounds around Castle Mountain Hostel that you can stay at. Also there are some other accommodations around Canyon Hot Springs that you may want to investigate.
The hiking schedule will be available to all, and posted on our Website once is complete.
The camp participants will be notified of the location and time of the first get together during the camp.
There will be no further general announcement on the summer camp. All further communication will be directed only to people who expressed interest to participate.
For any further inquiry or clarifications please email Cristina and Diane.

NSH Summer Camp 2018

Update, April 1
The preliminary hike schedule can be accessed by members via this link after logging in.
NSH Summer camp 2018 - January announcement
The 2018 summer camp will see us return to the Kananaskis Country. We hiked there, as a club, in 2014 - check the Raven’s fall 2014 issue on our Website to get a taste of what the hiking will be like: fabulous mountains, wonderful trails, great company.

This year’s camp coordinators would like to hear from interested club members. The camp will likely take place, Sunday to Sunday, July 22 to July 29. A 4 or 5 nights add-on to Mount Assiniboine will also be considered if there is enough interest from camp participants.

If you are a member, please log on and check back at this page or Event Schedule for registration information. If you are not a member but would like to know more about this event, please email us at membership@northshorehikers.org.

We would appreciate a response by the end of January. While registration for the camp will remain open, we would like to direct our further communications only to camp registrants. Next communications will detail the accommodation options and the planning of the hiking schedule.
