9 hikers, including the leader, met at the trailhead at 9:00. There were 4 new members on their first hikes and one new member on her second hike. The remaining 4 are longstanding members of the club. The skies were grey and cloudy, but no rain in the beginning.  We proceed up the west trail, and, as typical, there were no other hikers on the trail.  The trails seemed unusually deep green, with the moss and ferns. The arbutus trees bark had faded, but the Manzanita were still a glorious red. We stopped at the Old Helipad. From there we continued to the “summit” That was the only place we saw other hikers. Two of them coming in the opposite direction. Once we reached Whyte  Lake, we took the short in-and-out trail to the little beach on the north side of the lake, and then headed across the boardwalk to sit on the empty dock. We descended via Nelson Creek, which was surprisingly uncrowded. It rained for short periods throughout the hike. We arrived back at the parking lot at 12:00 as planned.
