We had very hot 30C sunny weather for both hikes on Blackcomb and Whistler. It turns out from Sigrid’s cellphone tracks, that the Blackcomb hike is harder than the High note trail on Whistler. I was quite surprised by the data.

Everyone enjoyed themselves and were in awe of the magnificence views and the carpet of alpine flowers.

We also had a freezing swim in Blackcomb lake. I had no feeling in my legs after 30 seconds – two more minutes and I would have lost all motor function! The other alpine lakes after that felt like bath water! LOL!

    other info:

    1. we all got $10 voucher from WB because we had mechanical failure on the gondola for 30 minutes.

    2. I called WB mountain rescue for a woman in distress. She said her lungs were not working and asked me for help.

A new habit I have started is asking other hikers how they are doing …if they are okay and where they are hiking to… I think the Northshore search and rescue program has gotten me to think about others and help them avoid being on the 6 o’clock news. Most people in distress don’t have the where with all to call for help.

    3. I got dehydrated and had a headache on day two. I overdid it with too much hiking and biking on day one. Even after 2.5 litres of water, I didn’t pee all day! In fact, no one peed during the hike – a first!

It is very important to drink plenty of fluids and take electrolytes during a heat wave.
