MemberKaty was complaining about how crowded Seymour was today and the Mountain gods must have heard her—Seymour is now limiting the number of users and we will need to book ahead to get a day pass starting Dec 15/21. See attached link:
Seven NSH met at 9:15 am in a bitterly freezing parking lot. With the wind, Pam thought it was -5C. She was reluctant to get out of the car. I decided to put on my rain pants and face “dickie” to keep warm. We had the great debate in the parking lot about whether it was a snowshoe day or micro spike day. The group decision was split and 3 went in snowshoes and 4 in micropsikes. So who was right? I would say it was 50/50. The start had some exposed rock, but it could be skirted. Up to the 1st peak, snowshoes were helpful as the spikes broke through the ice layer into soft snow (approx. 5″). As we were a fast moving group, we decided to go for the second peak too as the avalanche forecast was low.
On the way, we bumped into Diana W. and her new spouse. She said she thought our trip was full, but I said I didn’t have a limit on participants. At the second peak, we bumped into Dave and Michelle heating up water, apparently waiting for us. Then Gordon came moseying along with his great big smile and took a group photo. By now the wind had died down and it was quite lovely have a mini-NSH reunion over a leisurely lunch. No one was in a rush to go down as the views, conversation and sunshine were engaging.
We got back to the cars at exactly 1:30 pm as predicted. Thanks to Katy, Pam, Dana, Afshin, Andrea and a guest from Brussels, Guillaume, (I think we were too slow for this young fellow and he said if he joined our club, he would be more interested in Alastair’s trip), for a wonderful “fun in the sun” day.

KeymasterThank you Ye for leading the SS hike.
It turned out to be a perfect day of sunshine when the wind was not blowing off my hat 🙂
