Ye led four of us to the water’s edge in order to access the col between Black Tusk and Mt. Empetrum Peak. Rex, with his long legs and extraordinary balance, crossed the fast flowing water dumping one boot, then righting himself. No one else was willing to join him on the other side.
However, we had a marvellous hike UP Cinder Cone and AROUND the perimeter. The colourful porous rocks were light and looked like sponges. I hoped there would be no osseous explosion in my bones. The mist/rain was fine. The views were spectacular – especially looking over to Helm Glacier and a series of small lakes, which we named Mark, Lynn, Rex, Ye and Patricia. The hike was 9 hours. The trail from Cheakamus was well-developed with water troughs. it is a great running trail too.
