There’s often a bad accident to report when we go up the trail to the top of Shannon Falls, but this time the Water Nymphs were looking after us and we almost got down without a spill. Nobody stumbled over the waterfall, nobody slid down the slippery rocks and over the cliff at the lunch spot, and no cell phones were needed to call the 9-1-1 helicopter squad.
On the descent we paused at the various historic accident sites, and had a spectacular surprise finale just minutes from the cars.
At the innocent-looking pool at the top of the thundering falls we remembered how G1 had slipped on the rocks and gone down the chute to the very lip of the Falls; and here he had been miraculously checked and hauled to safety by J.
And how G2 had almost lost her dog in the same chee-sey situation; and how S had gone into the water while trying to make it to the slippery island rock in the middle of the cascade.
Further down the trail we saw the place where S had taken a rolling tumble down the rocks, clutching his trail-clearing saw the while. Finally, right down at the bottom we watched live action as S tripped and fell into the creek. He escaped with a few bruises and cuts.
So we Hail S for his hat-trick of falls and recommend that his name be cast in Stone in the BC Hikers Hall of Fame.

In this album, one can also see, in Dennis’ words, “the slippery rock in the middle of the innocent pool above the thundering waterfall in this Trail of Doom”.
