According to some iPhones, we hiked 26  or 27 km and in others 20 km. What ever it was, we were out and about for over 8 hours, soaking up the sunshine and wonderful conversations. As promised we went at a moderate pace to ensure we could go beyond the lake. We explored a ridge leading up to Mt. Agony ( appropriately nicknamed by our club years ago when a couple broke up on this peak and the other hikers said it was “ agony” to watch it all play out). We got to see a field of Glacier Lilies scrambling up to the ridge. From there we had great views of brandywine, metal dome and Cailey. i wanted to go on the see Callaghan, but some were hesitant hiking on snowfields. We had a vote whether to carry on or head down. We decided to turn around. We took a trail back via hanging lake view point and then back to lake. A park ranger, named Eric suggested we visit his favourite view point 50 m after the suspension bridge and sure enough it was a lovely spot looking at mount wedge.

the grizzly bears are gone this year. The park ranger said last year it was caused by a woman illegally camping at the lake and she had food in her tent. A grizzly came by in the night and she ran to the outhouse. She stayed there until others hikers came up in the morning. Then they called search and rescue to escort them down to their cars with a rifle.

we met  3 Irish boys attempting to swim in rainbow lake. But after a few words from us, they retreated back down to their cars.

we had 10 hikers and one new member. Big thanks to Hiroshi for organizing carpooling, Dana and Rieko for driving and Mark as our end person.
