First the Scabs: One owwie for Carol when she flopped off her bike leaving the Queensborough; and four for your CD as his folding bike self-folded on the way to the meeting spot. Ouch!
An hour into the ride at the coffee spot all bleeding wet scabs were displayed to shows of great sympathy. And not to be outdone the other riders thought it a good idea to display collections of old battle wounds below and above the coffee table. Scarey stuff, and enough drama to keep the Krispy Kreme donut shop pleasantly deserted.
Down at the Serpentine Fen bird sanctuary we seemed to have scared most of the birds away for the rest of the summer; a good place to pick a few blackberries though, as the birds didn’t seem to need them.
Riding by the golf course on the banks of the Nikomekl we paused to critically stare at a group of teer-uppers, sufficient distraction for them that our golfing member was moved to mutter words of encouragement; and they resumed their driving as we took off along the dyke.
After idling on the logs at Crescent Beach, we scared off Phillipe who was itching to get back to work, Phil who disappeared into the sunset, and Mary and Holly who decided they had an urgent need to catch a skytrain. Ness, Carol, and Dennis made it back to the starting point in New Westminster. Six and a half hours, 70 km, and all in the sunshine.
