MemberFive of us met on a rainy morning out at Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam. I think our leader was disappointed that Louise and I showed up as she was hoping to get out of leading a rainy day bike ride. However, within 15 minutes, the rain stopped and we had a completely dry day!
As we biked towards Swan-e-set Bay Golf Resort, we detoured off-piste to Hopcott’s gourmet food emporium on Dewdney Truck Road and had a Snack/WC break. We continued towards a gravel quarry on Rannie Road and witnessed a non-stop convoy of gravel trucks with pups passing us. We suspected they were hauling gravel and sand for Abbottsford’s dike rebuilding and sand bagging. It was astounding to see so many trucks and the strip mining of an entire hill.
At our final destination, we had a lovely relaxed lunch at the “French Chateau style” Swan-e-set Bay Golf Resort. We essentially had the entire restaurant to ourselves. Donna recommended the soup and sandwich special for $15. We had a smokey bacon and hamburger bisque with a huge roasted chicken sandwich. None of us could finish our meal, except for Greg.
Riding back, the gravel trucks had left a slick fine silt mud on the road and our bikes and bodies were coated in mud. My crank set began to grind with the grit (it took me three days to clean up the mess as I had no fenders!)
We returned on the Coquitlam River trail and we saw two dogs run across the creek and bark at a fully grown black bear. I bolted as I was anticipating that the angry bear would run after the dogs and their owner. Louise on the other hand wanted to stop and watch!
As we approached the Lafarge skytrain station to go home, it started raining again. Great timing Donna!
Thanks Donna for leading us – we all had a lovely day.
