Dave and I participated in the world’s largest bike ride in NYC. There were 30,000 riders from 60 countries. They shut the main streets down till 7 pm and we rode across the entire island of Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island. We got a participation medal and lots of free food at the five rest stops. Security was tight with police pulling random riders over to check their backpacks. I saw several riders crash when it started to rain. I stayed safe riding close to the sidewalk. All in all, a spectacular day seeing NYC without cars, noise or pollution. Two highlights for me were biking in Harlem down Malcolm X road, steeped in historical architectural and turmoil, as well as, meeting people from all around the world: Russia, Venezuela, Canary Islands, England, etc.
