Three NSH members arrived in Manning Park Saturday afternoon, set up tents at Lone Duck winter campsite then went for a short walk to the Lightning Lakes Day use area and the Similkemeen trailhead. We were joined at the campsite later in the afternoon by a fourth NSH member.
The campsite has a large shelter with a woodstove for warmth on cool winter evenings. We had our dinner in the shelter and then went for to the resort for a hot tub and sauna before retiring to our tents.
We woke at the crack of dawn, had breakfast and packed up our camp before hitting the Mount Frosty trail from Lightning Lakes ~8:45 am. The trail was dry up to Frosty Camp then compact snow and slippery sections to the summit. Microspikes came in handy. Enjoyed our lunch in the brilliant sunshine at the summit. Popular trail this time of year. We shared the summit with several other hikers including groups from the BCMC and Alpine Club Okanagan section. After lunch headed back down. Arrived at the cars ~4:30 pm. Back in Vancouver by 7:30 pm.
Participants: Jayne Hardy, Alys Shantz, Ben Murray and Karen Peters
