Trip report. Day 2 of the 3 night camping/hiking trip in Manning Park
Today the NSH group did two hikes: Frosty Mountain and Lightning Lakes Chain(LLC). This report is about the wonderfully beautiful 24 km LLC. Our group of three only did 20km of an out and back trip to Thunder Lake which is one of the four lakes making up the LLC: Lightning, Flash, Strike and Thunder. Views of the lakes and the trail itself were outstanding. The last km at the wider portion of Thunder lake was blocked by a multiple year rock slide. We decided to shorten the hike and enjoy a safe lunch at the beginning of the loose rocks. The trail offers views of the surrounding forests, high elevation trails: (Skyline)waterfalls, and lake interconnecting streams. Lightning lake while not entirely natural( a small earth dam is located at the day use area) has a very interesting feature as it drains in two directions( north into Similkameen River and south into Flash Lake.

The weather was terrific and, once out of the woods, we enjoyed spectacular views. We encountered several extended patches of snow at various parts of the trail (which we also temporarily lost at one point). We didn’t lose our good moods however! As we neared the ascent to Lone Goat, the group agreed to split and some turned back while others hiked to the top.In the evening, we all met up at Donny’s campsite for dinner, relaxation, a fire and more chatting.(tried to upload pics, but wasn’t successful) -
