MemberBig “Thanks” to Lesley for organizing another spectacular camping and hiking trip. It was just what I needed in my hectic schedule: a short relaxing and fun escape out of the City with no wifi. There were 9 participants. We met at FK at 6:30 am and carpooled to Coldspring campground ($23/site/night). They take 60% reservation and 40% walk-in. There were plenty of sites to chose from. We set up our tents and regrouped at the trail head for the Poland lake hike at around 10:30 am. The hike was very hot with unrelenting sunshine. We had breathtaking views to the Hozameen Mountain Range. If you hike right beside Lesley, she will educate you on all the flora and fauna in the area. I think Carole noted 32 different plants along the trail. A new one for me was the Elephant Trunk Flower, which was true to its name. Katy and I swam in a lukewarm Poland Lake, while others dipped their feet in. Lesley is a big advocate for swimming and hiking. Before dinner, we drove to Spruce Bay parking lot to swim in a colder Lightening lake. But once in the water, it was very refreshing in the hot sun. Almost like going to a spa!
The next day, we woke up to cooler temperatures and did a short relaxing hike around lightening lake. Believe it or not, but it was too cold and windy for a swim. As we drove out of Manning Park, it started to rain a bit. Thanks to my driver, Anne, I had a opportunity to snooze all the way back to Vancouver. What a wonderful mid-week break – thank you Northshorehikers!

KeymasterA belated addition to this wonderful camp led by Lesley.
Needless to say that you got a free botany class when you hiked with Lesley. I have the great pleasure to learn so much and take photos to remind myself about these beautiful wild flowers.
Three of us extended our stay and did the Skyline Hike. With the wealth of the botany knowledge that we just learnt, we were able to identify more plants and flowers around us in the massive meadows.
Highlights of my album are:
1) Big arrow to re-direct the lost hikers back on to the right track
2) Muddy SPA in Poland Lake
3) All wild flowers that I have forgotten the names
