Last couple of weeks, a few of us have been trying to catch cranberry harvesting bogs around Metro Vancouver while bicycling. As you might see from my photos from the last three weeks of the harvest season, the cranberry farmers are floating their fields, that gives the bogs “a vivid red hue”! We have learned a lot about the cranberry farming in BC. One of them is: “The BC cranberry harvest comprises about 12% of the North American crop.” – bccranberries.com

Yesterday, six of us started to ride at Walnut Grove Community Center around 9:30 am, following the Glen Valley bike trails. It was a nice sunny day (10 -16 deg C). Our first stop was around the historic site of old BCER Langley Substation. As per Wikipedia, “The British Columbia Electric Railway (BCER) was an historic railway which operated in southwestern British Columbia, Canada. Originally the parent company, and later a division, of BC Electric, the BCER assumed control of existing streetcar and interurban lines in southwestern British Columbia in 1897, and operated the electric railway systems in the region until the last interurban service was discontinued in 1958.”

Had lunch in Glen Valley Regional Park by Fraser River. After lunch, we stopped by another Cranberry bog and caught a gorgeous view of Mt Baker. Later on, we passed through touristic Langley City. For two of us, Langley was a new place to discover. We will do another time. We had a pit stop in Derby Reach Regional Park (Edgewater Bar Campsite) to catch more fall colours together with Fraser River. When we completed the approximately 60 km trip, it was around 3 pm. The rain clouds had started covering the sky for the late evening…

Thank you all for joining us! Especially Holly for helping us for the directions…

    See you on the trails.
