Even though it was a cloudy day, ten brave souls met before 8:00 at Seymour Conservation Reserve parking lot with our bikes and full hiking gear.
Two dauntless members wanted to have a head start and reached Paton Lookout at 11:52. The rest of the group arrived at the junction to Paton lookout shortly after.
We had a brief snack/half lunch break together. Then 3 out of the 10 decided to sign off and not continue to Coliseum. Another brave soul signed off near the top leaving six finalists contemplating the summit. After a quick review of the viewless summit, the six brave souls decided to stay put and enjoy lunch sitting amid the clouds.
The returning times to the parking lot were the first three just before 2:00pm; the solo at 4:30 pm ; and the last six at about 5 pm.
All in all, it was a great day even without the spectacular views.
Thank you Ye and Rick, our fearless leaders for co-leading this bike and hike trip to Coliseum.
July 4, 2019 at 11:22 pm #9929Katy PoonKeymasterThe early group of three was surprised by a couple of young deers on the way down the forest. The pairs were leisurely feeding themselves on the trails and were in no hurry to run away from the hikers.
A safe distance was kept between the deers and the hikers.
