Seven very happy hikers, hiked 1200 m up to Wedgemont lake. After lunch, five of us hiked to the glacier at the end of the lake and discovered that after five years, the glacier has receded up the mountain, leaving behind a very large lake. As we savoured the view and discussed global warmer, an adult marmot came running out to play with us. I suspect it was a human fed marmot. Why do humans feel the need to feed wild life?
The trail seemed less dangerous then other years. I think people are putting work into it.
The mosquitoes were bad in the forest, but up at the lakes, a strong cold wind blew them away.
Thanks Rick and Mark for driving and to the group for their great laughs and their undying sense of adventure.
Note: the logging road has gotten worse, high clearance vehicles recommended. Newer signage is very helpful too, especially at the top. The outhouse down the lake is closed and the bear cache has fallen over.
