In hot Okanagan weather, 3 NSH biked the Myra canyon near Kelowna and as advertised it was one of the most beautiful bike rides in BC. The bike route followed the old rail bed at about 1200+m elevation, with wonderful views to Okanagan lake, Kelowna and the canyon. There were 18 trestle bridges and two tunnels over 22 km. This trail goes on and on, all the way to Midway, but you would need to bring all you water, food, tent, satellite phone, etc…as there is no water or cell phone reception.
We then drove to Nelson and rode the Great Northern Rail trail from Nelson to Cotton Lake. There were only three trestle bridges, but the ride is all in the shade, which is a nice reprieve from the unrelenting heat. This is part of the Trans Canada Trail system.
Great rides and would definitely do them again, but maybe longer versions with cars on either end.
NOTE: You can rent bikes at either end of Myra canyon from late May to early October. It is a very popular tourist destination. I recommend a 4WD for the FSR.
