    We found it!

Six of us (5 Northshore hiker members and 1 guest) met at the intersection of Mt Seymour Road and Indian River Road at 9:00 am to carpool in two vehicles to the start of the hike. Luckily we nabbed the only two designated parking spots that exist on Indian River Road immediately before the “private” and “cars will be towed” signs start. That meant we only had to walk two kilometres along Sasamat Lane to Percy Creek where we entered the forest.

The entrance is easy to miss and you need to know what you are looking for. It was a 100 m ascending bushwack along Percy Creek to Powerline Trail.  Powerline Trail looks like an old forestry road and is probably used by the locals to access their water supply installations at Percy Creek and other nearby creeks.

That part was short and soon the trail became increasingly faint and rugged. Without the flagging that someone has recently put in we would have been challenged to stay on route.  Freshly fallen leaves covered everything. This made for slow going as no one wanted to sprain an ankle on unseen rocks or deadfall.

There were the expected creek crossings but none posed any difficulties for the group. Water shoes and wading were not required, just strategic rock hopping and tree hugging. Poles were indispensable.

The final bit before the summit required some scrambling and use of ropes. We topped out at the 450m viewless summit and posed for a group shot before descending to a more scenic spot overlooking Indian Arm for lunch.

Conclusion: Mt. Underhill is a worthy objective, especially on a long summer day when doing the long 25 km/1,500m version (by adding together Parts 1 and 2) is feasible. I don’t know what the stats are for Part 2 because my gaiagps malfunctioned but it is probably half of the long version.

Photos: Working on it. I need to figure out how to make them small enough to fit.
