Last Tuesday, four of us met at 8:45 am at the Diamond Head Parking lot. Six hikers had cancelled a day before the trip. There were only two other cars in the parking lot. We saw only a couple at Red Heather Shelter, who had camped by the lakes and they were descending through the parking lot. We didn’t see any other hikers on the trail until 3 pm. We had lunch by the shelter and campground around Elfin Lakes. The lakes and campsite were under the snow. After lunch we followed the winter route. We had hail, light rain and sunny breaks on the way back. All of us managed to walk with our microspikes. While passing through Brandvold falls, two trail runners were on the scene. They were just starting to walk or run up? A few hundred meters later from the falls, we came across a family, who were descending.
Thank you again to Susan for leading us on this fabulous trip!
