Six hikers, representing the 10:00 a.m. subgroup of the November 28 “Distanced Hike on Grouse without Gondola”, set out from our parked cars at Malaspina Park in search of the Mackay Creek Trail head. The trail was found and the uphill trek began. Snow level was encountered at the Simic Trail head and micro spikes were donned shortly thereafter. Instead of continuing to the chalet we veered off and headed to the Flint and Feather viewpoint for lunch although there was no view on this day. There was lots of snow though and we were shocked to see all the boot prints leading past the viewpoint and over the rocks, indicating that people are hiking the Flint and Feather in winter. I did not think to note the direction of the boot prints. Are they hiking up or down? Our route down took us along the BCMC, Larson, Old BCMC and Mackay Creek trails, and a short bit along the Powerline Trail back to Malaspina Park and our cars. Thank you to participants Bassim, Colleen, Peter, Patricia and Nick for joining me on an exploration of some of Grouse’s lesser-known trails (and avoiding the mobs on the BCMC).
