Isn’t it funny how sometimes it is because of drinking we had kids. And once they are here, it’s because of kids we drink? I hd a lot of extra thinking time today, can’t you tell.

You have heard of the Inca Trail and The Ho Che Min Trail? Now we have the official Gordon Ruth Trail (GRT) leading up to Garibaldi Lake. Is their anyone that looks more excited and enthosiastic then Gordon when it comes to grinding up the 8 km to Garibaldi Lake? I don’t think so. He is like a kid in a candy store. I think he stays awake the night before thinking how much fun it is going to be to tear up that trail and see who dares go with him.

Poor Alex did not know better. He tried and surcome to a fall which resulted in a bad knee trying to take a short cut to catch up to Gordon. Frank tried for like 30 seconds. The rest of us sat back and enjoyed the show.

Even Cam who learned first hand last fall when we climbed Price Mount to let Gordon have his fun and don’t get in his way or he will eat you up like a Pac Man game.

So its now official: Gordon Ruth Trail.

Now Frank is a different story. I guess he was a member some 9 years ago with the NSH and decided this was a good day to return and strut his stuff once again.
He pulls out of his Jeep what Cam thought were lawn chairs and then proceed to snap them on to the bottom of his boots. I have been told by reliable sorces that these shoes go great in deep powder. Today we had crust going up and slush coming down. I was looking forward to using them to sit on during lunch while basking in the sun. Frank was looking forward to getting new shoes.

For myself I took my time hiking up the GRT to the lake and was foolishly thinking Gordon had probably gone to hard so I would show him a thing or two crossing Garibaldi Lake. Chatting with Miki and Cam, relaxing and enjoying the view I was prepairing my attack.

After a short break the 5 km lake crossing began. I started off behind Gordon whislting and making small talk trying to distract him from putting the hammer down and kicking butt. It worked. For about 15 minutes and then I am not sure if I just gradually slowed down or he just gradually sped up. Either way he smoked me which in turn smoked everyone else. The way he was swinging his arms and poles you would have thought he was on cross country skiis. At least I thought I could get dragged along in his vapour spray but that did not even help me. What can I say? He smoked me and I was hell bent on stupidity.

Miki strolls up behind me looking like she is out for an easy walk in the park. What are those two eating? All their trail running is paying dividends. The rest of the bandits came in to the Hut looking like me. Kind of rung out.

Now it was suppose to rain today in the city and perhps snow up in the mountains. Not for us. We sat down for lunch and the sun broke out and the sky lifted to provide maginfacent views. I think we sat around for about 90 minutes.

Gordon and I went a little further to check out the veiws from behind the hut while everyone head back across the lake. We took our time because we new we would catch Cam. Besides his patched eye and now cramps probably from dehydration and his knee was playing tricks on him. The knee part I think was just a stunt to get the rest of my water and maybe for just a brief moment to feel sorry for him. NOT. The sand baggar bolted on the down hill stretch and smoked us all.

Ziggy Stardust was reserved all day. I cannot remember but maybe it was him who discribed ‘baby crampons’ like a condom with chains! Man, go figure where that came from? Must be to much stardust in his water.

Alex did pretty good with a bum knee, broken snow shoe and a happy face. I think he coined the phrase: Why go to the gyme and punish my body for something my mouth did. Yea, I know, he is a deep thinker!

Chicks for free was my deep thinking. Why not? Got to dream big.

Thanks Gordon and Miki for a fun sunny day. Thanks Frank for assistant driving.
