Eleven hikers woke up very very early to hike a stellar volcano in the Garibaldi provincial park. It was the last weekend required for car passes – yeah! (such a headache to get them).
The day was very warm with blue blue skies. The views were fantastic after the first 9 km. Everyone was very happy they came and kept thanking me over and over again for organizing the hike (sweet).
We went at a relaxed pace as advertised which made it very pleasant to do lots of photographic, have snacks and water breaks.
After summiting the volcano rim, I took hikers to have lunch facing Helm creek glacier and Panorama ridge. The views were breathtaking. We did not see any other hikers up here because there are no trails. Lovely to have the whole area to ourselves.
A couple of eager hikers want me to recchi a trail from Helm creek /glacier up to Cinder cone. It may be doable if we can cross the creeks. Next time…
Trip stats: 26 km, 8+ hours, 1160+/- m elevation gain (NOTE: trip stats varied from 24 km to 30 km on various devices).
UPDATE: Stats according to Davit’s watch :
26.7 km, 8 h 20 min, 1226 m elevation
