A beautiful day dawned as 7 of us started in Deep Cove by hiking up a long series of stairs as well as small board walks all the while passing other hikers who were there just to see Quarry Rock. At the rock we saw some Fire Search and Rescue people practicing their recovery techniques getting ready to help the school boy who did indeed fall off the rock later that day. As soon as we passed the rock, there were no more stairs and it was just a small hiking trail. We got to a point in the trail where there were salmon berry bushes on either side of the little path blocking our view of any possible bears, so it was good that we were in a group. The way down seemed to be steeper than when we came up, occasionally having to sit on fallen trees to get to the ground below.
This hike was very nice, especially with the salmon berries to give us the needed energy to climb the hills – coming back down was a little steep but over all a very fulfilling hike and a wonderful day to see the mountains in Vancouver.
