Thirteen of us enjoyed a beautiful sunny day on Bowen Island. After some confusion at Park Royal, all of us (except one) managed to catch the 9:00 am ferry to Snug cove.

The village Sunday market with freshly baked goodies welcomed (distracted) us before we could get going.

Our first stop was at Dorman Point where we startled a dozen or so Turkey Vultures waiting the sun to warm up so that they could catch the thermals to continue their flight to their winter homes in the south. View of the mainland from Dorman Point makes you feel like you are on a vacation far away from the bustling city even though it is only a short ferry ride.

Next we walked along Hummingbird Lane to the beautiful and aptly named September Morn Beach. No one in the group could be persuaded to shun their clothes on this clothing optional area on Bowen Island.

We took a different trail back to the village and again stopped briefly at the Sunday Market. Loaded with muffins and other goodies we walked through the woods along Terminal Creek. In the meadows we saw a Sharp-shinned Hawk and a pair of Ravens.

After crossing the Killarney Creek we walked to the Killarney Lake where six in the group decided that this is the lunch spot for them. The rest of us continued to hike up the Mt. Gardner Trail. We stopped for lunch at the first view point at about 300m elevation. After lunch we walked back down and around the lake. Along the trail, Andrea spotted a Red-breasted Sapsucker and Micheal kissed the hand of a beautiful lady (fern).

We managed to catch up with the splinter group in Snug Cove. Some us even had time to buy ice cream cones before catching the 3:10 pm ferry back to Horseshoe Bay.

It was my pleasure to meet some old friends and meet new members. Thank you all for coming out. Do you remember all seven species of ferns that we saw? There will be a test next time I see you.

Thank you to Andrea for the delicious (and enormous) blue-berry muffin. Thank you to Hassina for the photographs. Two of the photos are attached here and the rest can be seen from the link:
