Oh my goodness, we NSH are super lucky. We biked up to the top of Mt. Etna at 2000 m two days ago and then took the gondola and bus to 3000 m to view recently active craters. It was very calm, cold and sunny. The next day, we headed out on our bikes and at our first left hand turn, we could not believe our eyes! Mount Etna had erupted! All day long, we kept looking at mount Etna, as three craters had exploded and lava was pouring down the side of the mountain. Incredible! We felt super lucky.

We finished this epic, once in a lifetime bike trip today and we all felt a huge sense of accomplishment. Everyone stayed safe and it was sunny everyday. We rode 826 km with 11, 532 m elevation gain. But we think it maybe more as we had many unforeseen detours. Our group’s age range was 21 to 78 years old.

We stayed in the most amazing accommodations from five star spa hotels to luxury family farms and ate delicious meals together on family-style farm tables outside with magnificent views to the ancient valleys and/or temples.

The last 12 days of biking are rich in memories and friendship as we got to know each other. Thanks to the group for treating me to dinner on our last night together and buying me a gift! Very thoughtful and kind.

We are off to Malta today for some R + R. LOL! See you all on my next Vancouver bike ride. Cheers, Ye
