MemberThis “Green Necklace” trail was planned in 1907 and was only completed as a bike trail a few years ago. It is only 7.5 km long and connects from one North Vancouver park to another, like a string of pearls, in a large loop.
As promised, we stopped for a long lunch at a Japanese restaurant on Lonsdale and 19th. We all got take out and ate in a small park.
Today’s 10 bikers came from all over and we had multiple meeting places to string them together: three from East Vancouver, one from West Point grey, two from downtown, three from the North Shore and one from Richmond. We also rode by four NSH’s on the trail. I commented that when you join a club like NSH, you will be bumping into members every time you go out into nature. We are everywhere!
It turned out to be a long day for me, as after the bike ride, two of us went to the Great Outdoor and Bike Show at the Convention Centre. It was a blast test riding e-bikes with throttle and e-scooters – so much fun and power.
There were quite a few NSH volunteering at the show. One four hours shift entitles you to 2 free tickets (tickets are $18 each) snacks, drinks and fruit. Two shifts gets you 4 tickets and so on. I will post this again next year when they need volunteers for the show. The organizer said she really appreciated our club’s help as they did not have enough volunteers.

ParticipantI don’t know why the club would be involved in this event. It doesn’t seem like a very good deal to me for four and a half hours of a persons time to receive two tickets which were $12.00 each for seniors (which was the case for some North Shore Hikers) and children, and a little more for adults. Entry prices in attached photo. Add in transit or fuel/parking costs to the volunteers. E-bike companies are doing very well financially for the last few years and during Covid times and should be able to have paid staff to advertise and sell their products at these trade events and not need any volunteers.
