Eight of us met at 9:45am in Starbucks at the base of Grouse gondola, and started up the trail about 10am. Although we chose the best weather forecast of the week, waiting until 2 days before to announce the date, this week it was only partial sunshine, mostly cloud. So we chose this trail — an uphill workout among the trees, rather than in the higher open alpine areas that we enjoy on sunny days.

The lower half was snow-free. Great to have hiking poles and especially micro-spikes above that. Beautiful recent snow on the trees, but the trail was trodden down enough that snowshoes weren’t needed.

The trail is very familiar to most of us, and all within cell phone range. So it was safe enough to let the group split, with four faster hikers going ahead. I stayed with the slower group, chatting with a new member who hadn’t hiked this one before. We all reunited at the chalet for lunch.

    GPS track & data:

    746 m ascent

    3 km

    1 hour 41 minutes
