It was billed as an Up-and-Down bike trip to SFU and Metrotown, but evolved into a cellphone instruction class for Luddites.
Obviously you can use it as a telephone, right? This happened 3 times in order to contact the missing participant who overshot himself whizzing down Burnaby Mountain and continued into the sunset instead of turning left down to the lake. He was okay. So were we; lazing in the sun at Burnaby Lake
Also you can take pictures with it, as people did when we discovered the caterpillars and butterfly sculpture hidden amongst the containers in an industrial park; plus a blue concrete conversation pit as a bonus.
Then the really clever bits: at the end of the ride we learned that the overall trip was 70km long and over 4000 feet up-and-down rather than the paltry 60km and 1500 feet the CD had guessed. Most flattering. It also drew a map of where we’d been including the bit where we got lost, and a profile of all the ups-and-downs.
And did you know that if you’ve paid for a parking meter and are sitting having coffee and want to feed the meter, you can do so from your seat without going back to the meter?
Such, such are the wonders.
