BC Parks proposed policy change threatens Provincial Parks’ use
BC Parks Intentions Paper Regarding a Policy on Management of Existing Ski Resorts within Provincial Parks
BC Parks is proposing changes to the Ski Resort Development Plan that would treat ski resorts in BC Parks the same as ski resorts on Crown land. This could have the potential of allowing further commercial enterprises in our Provincial Parks. Local resorts have already put restrictions on the non-paying public. The proposed changes may lead to gradual loss of current public enjoyment these parks and could lead to further environmental degradation.
BC Parks has made a deadline of June 29th, 2014 for feedback. This does not permit adequate public input. Please go to their website and let your opinions be known. Submit your comments http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/permits/consultation/ski-hill-policy.html

Snowshoers – new policy for local parks. Comment by June 29
Check out the newly announced consultation on a new policy for ski resorts in Cypress, Seymour and Manning Parks.
You can submit your comments until June 29.You may remember the protracted discussions on parking for snowshoers and back country skiers at the local hills which did not result in any mutually agreed solution for the stakeholders invloved/consulted. We North Shore Hikers will be impacted by this new policy so I urge you to get involved, either at the member or club level or both. Under Miscelanous in the Forum you can see the comments I sent to the Province.

Patrick Brown awarded a lifetime membership to NSH

A very surprised, Patrick Brown was awarded a lifetime honorary membership May 8 during the slideshow evening. Since 1984, he has lead numerous hikes of all levels, cleared trails and been involved in the Executive. His expertise in accounting started his involvement with the Club as auditor then later, treasurer for a few more years. He found his niche as membership secretary and served for over 10 years, (no one seems to know exactly how long). Patrick has been a tireless promoter of NSH as a club that offers safe, organized outdoor activities. Thank you for your commitment to the Club, Patrick. Happy trails in your new adventures.
