Introduction

We will be hiking for 7 days (first hike begins the morning of July 25th).  You may come for all or part of the camp.  You are responsible for arranging your own accommodation.  There are a number of campgrounds, motels etc. in the area.

Our plan is to hike in the Kokanee/New Denver area for 5 days then head further north for 2 nights at Sol Mountain Lodge in the Monashees where we will be hiking above tree line right out of the lodge.

For the first 4 nights, we plan to be based at Kokanee Creek Provincial Park Sandspit campground, which is north of Nelson BC.  This campground has showers and campsites that can be reserved.  Our first group meeting will be on July 24th.  We will hike in this area from July 25th to 27th.  On the morning of July 28th we will break camp and move to a campground or other accommodation near New Denver (about 100 kms north of Kokanee Creek) for 2 nights, July 28th and 29th.  On the July 30th we will move to Sol Mountain Lodge for 2 nights.  The lodge owners have “pencilled in” the North Shore Hikers for July 30th and 31st, 2024.  Don and I have already reserved our spots.

Information about Campsite and Lodge Reservations

Kokanee Creek Provincial Park Sandspit Campground: We will be based in the Sandspit campground from July 24th to July 27thand head to New Denver on the morning of July 28th.  You can reserve a campsite at Sandspit on the BC Provincial Parks reservation system four months before the first night you want.  Since our planned dates are July 24th to 27th, you can try to reserve those 4 nights beginning at 7AM on March 24, 2024.

New Denver Accommodations: We will be based near New Denver on July 28th and 29th.  We have not decided where we will be staying in New Denver yet.

Sol Mountain Lodge: In winter Sol Mountain Lodge is a backcountry skiing venue accessed by helicopter.

In summer it’s a hiking/mountain biking venue, accessed via forest service roads.  It’s a 55 km drive from either Nakusp or Revelstoke.  The drive takes a good 2 hours.  The lodge recommends vehicles with AWD or FWD and high clearance, such as a Subaru Crosstrek.  The summer cost for the all-inclusive lodge is $325/night /person with a minimum of 2, 3 or 4 nights on the dates we have chosen.  We have let the lodge know our plan for summer camp participants to reserve there for the nights of July 30th and 31st, checking out on August 1st.  The lodge has a maximum capacity of 18 and requires a non-refundable deposit of $100 on booking.Check out the website at https://www.solmountain.com/trip-info.

Information about the lodge: Family owned and operated by Aaron and Sabine Cooperman, we designed Sol to feel like our home —off the grid, with all the comforts. Guests have private rooms, with indoor bathrooms, showers, a dry room for gear, wood-stove heated sauna, yoga and stretching studio. On the main floor is a full kitchen, lounge, and a stand-up bar where you can lean into après, stocked with craft beers and a curated selection of VQA BC wines. Micro-hydro keeps the lights on.
