Renee will present Kangri(6,153m): trekking and climbing in the Indian Himalayas.
Bill Kincaid and Daphne Nagorsen will present The Big WOW: Hiking the Rockwall
High above the Indus Valley, this rarely trodden loop route traversed the magnificent Ladakh Mountains and highlighted with the ascent of Stok Kangri (6153m). The dramatic, stark scenery of this high altitude desert is softened only by the immense charm of the Ladakhi villages and their hardy inhabitants.
The loop was so “off the beaten path” that we did not even see one human being until Stok La pass, where we suddenly saw many people ascending from the regular route. From Stok La we shared the route with other hikers to the base camp. Our summit day started at midnight and we were all back to the base camp by noon. From the summit, panoramic views extended across Ladakh to the Karakorams, the Himalaya and into Tibet.
As a hugely unexpected surprise, the day that we were in Leh, the town where the trek began, we had the privilege of seeing the Dalai Lama! A video of Dalai Lama in a place as close as he can get to Tibet , will also be presented in the slide show.
The Rockwall Trail in Kootenay National Park is one of the most spectacular and popular multi-day hikes in the Rocky Mountains. Daphne Nagorsen and Bill Kinkaid, Past President and President of Nature Vancouver, will present a slide show and report on the Nature Vancouver backpack to the Rockwall in July 2016.
