Hiking the John Muir Trail, Regula Vickery
One of the best-known hiking trails in the US, the 211-mile (340 km) John Muir Trail was named in the honour of the Scottish-Amercian naturalist, author and early advocate of wilderness preservation in the United States. The trail runs (mostly in conjunction with the Pacific Crest Trail) from Yosemite Valley to Mt. Whitney, in California. The trail passes through large swaths of alpine and high mountain scenery, and lies almost entirely at or above 8,000 feet (2,400 m) in elevation. About 35% of the trail, including the entirety of the last 30 miles (48 km), lie above 10,000 feet (3,000 m).
Regula and three friends hiked the trail in September 2013.
Morocco, Lesley Bohm
An organized trip by van, train, and foot from Casablanca, through the Atlas Mountains, ending in Marrakech, by three North Shore Hikers, Lesley, Sylvia, and Marion. Mosques, mountains, markets, tanneries, and Roman ruins.
Bring a friend! Non-members are welcome.
